Army Wife

When I met her she was enlisted--
a serious chick soldier turned out in
army surplus
resale.

Take off your damn boots, I told her.
I don't want it looking like Napoleon came tromping across
my precious Persian
rugs.

On a rainy afternoon, we walked to the mm yum bakery--
me in a white jacket like a ski trooper,
but she detected me with kiss
reconnaissance.

In September she moved in, when the sky was that spectacular blue.
We're cat and commander, redeploying this and that
to make basic barracks accommodate my girly curl
rococo.

  1. I loved--among other things--the "iss" of kiss and reconnaissance."

You are a master at word choice, at creating images, at blending the serious with the silly, at... well, what are you NOT an expert at when it comes to writing, Shay?

  6. This is full of quotable lines, but I really do relish those last few, and the kiss reconnaissance. The whole package is a gem, Shay.

  9. I love the way this says so much by leaving much unsaid. I also like the kind of quirky structure.

  10. This was fun read, but I had to look up "rococo!"

I liked the use of the letter "r" for the last words:~)

Sorry to be so late in my visits lately. I've been working on a story and when I do this, I have a hard time remembering to eat:~)
