T-Rex, ed.

The merciless T-Rex takes a cold delight in tearing its victim apart, biting to the bone and seeking out the tasty morsel of the heart, which it cannot chew but devours by tossing its head back and swallowing whole, followed by a satisfied bellow.

Though they write little of note themselves, the T-Rex often finds a position as editor of a poetry journal or publishing house. Seeming to grin, the T-Rex copy-pastes "Thank you for letting us see your manuscript. However...." The T-Rex will never see you as anything more than a plodding plant-eater. Might I suggest a more sensible career, for example dental assistant or elevator repair technician.

Next week: the pros and cons of asking a three-toed sloth to be your beta reader.

  1. Enormous carnivores in literature... hah. Well not really so funny, except from a distance. I hope to be able to spot these and avoid (or stay far apart!)... This made me guffaw... your meme. You are the Meme Queen, how did that even happen? I admire it. And recognize it.

  3. Or if you're accepted the T-Rex will edit your words into pieces... I have seen a "redlined" version from a friend.... I think it would be easier to handle rejection than replacement.

  4. Ah, the carnivorous world of publishing. T-Rex just keeps on tearing.

  5. Ha! If you told half of what you feel, the peeps of this world would cry and simper and stamp their tiny feet calling you mean. Keep the truth coming.

  6. I have ignored the world of publishing quite happily. I got a kick out of this.

  7. Everyone knows the T-Rex is an oversized stupid bully - who will eat you for dinner but that is beside the point. "though they write little themselves"... ha

  8. Yes, there's creating - and then there's publishing. I sometimes think I'll send a poem or two out for publication, but I never do it. I guess I'm afraid of the carnivores.
