HERE,
woudja, sweetheart?
Aw, don't be like that.
Aintcha glad t'see me?
All right.
I'll just bide my time.
Sooo,
is that a good book?
Well,
ya didn't have to close it,
but I guess there's a fire or something outside that window.
Yep, something wonderful in-ter-esting.
~whistle~
~sigh~
...
...
...
Well hello there, baby.
kiss~
and
~kiss.
I sure love you a bunch too.
Feels like I ain't seen ya in donkey's years.
I said "years", not "ears."
No, I ain't saying nothing about your mama.
I like ole Jenny just fine,
you know I do!
She made you, didn't she?
(yeah, I know that's pretty cornball,
but true.)
C'mon, then.
Let's go paint the town!

Um, you ain't gonna get there very fast
sitting down.
Now what?
I seen tree stumps less firmly planted.
Take it easy,
I was just yanking your rope,
but how come if I say A,
you just GOT to say Z?
All the same,
I love ya so.
You'll always be my hinny honey,
and yes,
I love your singing.
You shoulda been in some sort of horse opera--
you woulda done your daddy proud.
Now can we go?
Kick up a little dust?
I love it when you walk right close.
Aw sugah.
Aw shucks.

for Marian's Time (the Revelator) challenge at Real Toads. I used a different Gillian Welch song, "Hard Times."
Fun facts to know and tell: a female donkey is a "jenny". When bred with a male horse, you get a "hinny".
very cute. picked up a lot of mulage with this one. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteI'll just bride my time.....
ReplyDeleteFun personae you slipped into, Shug

but how come if I say A,
ReplyDeleteyou just GOT to say Z?
Uh Huh, that's right.
Ah, a touch of southern...love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat sassiness in this one. Love it.
ReplyDeleteHa.. I guess there's a cool backstory to this ;-)
ReplyDeleteShades of Coal Black here. I love the narrative voice.
ReplyDeleteHaha. That is just wonderful. :-)
ReplyDelete-HA
Ha. I knew the equestrian (maybe not right word) references so was laughing with you--I especially like the donkey years/ears--very funny. Your ripostes have the great quality of combining both the unexpected, and once one reads them, the expected--that is, they fit perfectly, but come with a little frisson of surprise--meaning delight.
ReplyDeleteThanks. k. (Manicddaily)
I did not know hinny, just love hinny-honey, honey! Love that.
ReplyDeleteThis is put together in such a neat way. Really like this.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that picture is so cute! Barefoot train travel; it's the only way to go.
ReplyDelete"how come if I say A,
you just GOT to say Z?" ... That's just the way I roll, Ladybug.
"You'll always be my hinny honey" ... I laughed so hard over this.
I suspected when I read "in-ter-esting" that this was about me. I was pretty sure when you wrote about the ass's years/ears. But NOW I'm completely positive: "I love your singing.
You shoulda been in some sort of horse opera--" ... I've always known you loved my poems. ;)

(She's live again; I know you're dying to stop by and comment on those "songs" you like so much. See you soon, Snookums.)
... pearls & a purple sweater , Sunday dinner @ Mum's..? I enjoyed this .
ReplyDeleteShade!!!! Hello!
ReplyDeleteWhere have I heard some of these phrases before? lol Well done :)
ReplyDelete"C'mere, sugah."
ReplyDeleteyou've got that southern drawl down pat with that one!
