Entre Nous, George....

George Tooker self portrait
Oh, don't look so stunned,
as if God had unfriended you.
Just keep tying your sweater arms around your shoulders like that,
and the right man will come through.

Now let's talk about your barber.
Either grow it out or shave, but not this.
You're more Paris than Parris Island, and that fivehead, oh my.
So wrong. So remiss.

Get that shell. It's for you!
It's Clara Bow calling, she wants her lips back.
Here's a drapery, wrap it around that tree trunk as an ascot.
You're welcome.
My lips are sealed;
I'm the very soul of tact.

  3. Wonderful work. Reference to Clara Bow was perfect. I also liked "as if God had unfriended you." I can imagine. Maybe even god gets tired of cat videos and pictures of someone's half eaten lunch. ;-)

  10. All I can say is, this painting deserves everything you gave it, and you really gave it from the heart. ;_)

  13. Harsh! But then we all can be that way looking at ourselves in the mirror, when talking to ourselves, and when trying to change the world.

  14. Hmmmm . . . do you happen to be one of the critics in the back of a fashion magazine, commenting on some rather poor form in public? If not, you should be! Loved the the tree trunk as ascot!
