doggerel
how can you not be able to see at all,
when the sight of you fills my heart with such happiness?
how can the fact of your cloudy eyes
make the tears fall from mine?
how can a God who is supposed to be love,
randomly harm someone who harms no one?
how can i accept
that there are things i can't protect you from?
i am nobody, just a speck in the dust
of a million beloveds lost to the ones who cherished them;
but my heart has one purpose, to be your light in the darkness...
to be your safe harbor, your kind touch, your bright star in the night.

ReplyDeleteYou are a Beacon to many Fireblossom!
ReplyDeleteAnd how IS Bosco? And how are YOU doing?
ReplyDeletecan i pull the honk cord as we pull into the harbor! you are such a light shay...
ReplyDeletedont feel sad for Bosco, he's not unhappy .. if you are feeding him dry food stop because its all carbs and carbs arent good for diabetic animals (or people) .. they turn to sugar in the body .. high protein foods, lots of love and insulin given on a schedule will keep him happy and with you longer .. xox
ReplyDeleteThe light you shine his way will always be reflected back to you in the mirror that is his perfect loving heart. Unlike most humans, dogs can do that. Both of you, keep shining.
ReplyDeleteBeing someone's safe harbor - a lovely thought.
ReplyDeleteThey are so tough and do so much, it is easy to forget sometimes that they are delicate creatures too.
ReplyDeleteHe is fortunate to have a human such as you as his friend.
Somehow, that comment fails...
ReplyDeleteI am touched by this, Shay. Deeply.
In the whole wide world, there could be no one better to be the eyes for your Bosco. A beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteOh, this poem from your broken heart, breaks mine too. Such pain, yet such a beautiful pure love between you two. You ARE his bright star in the night. This one makes me cry, Shay.
ReplyDeleteThis is how I feel about my kids...
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Shay.

Strong - as always.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.
Just keep loving him and he'll be happy. Unlike us demanding humans, animals ask little and give so much. Hugs to you both and a sniff for Bosco from Soni and Puck!
ReplyDeleteOh, Shay, this is just lovely. So touching. It makes my heart ache and race at the same time.
ReplyDeleteShay,
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that Bosco is blind. You realize my dog is also blind. Have we ever talked about this?
This poem is just what I needed. There are times when I get frustrated because my old dog requires quite a bit of assistance now. Yet, this poem reminds me of how truly loving she is and has always been. Thanks:~)
