Denim and Linen

Beneath my bracelets,
my blood moving.

On my fingers this morning,
just one ring.

Denim and linen
softly familiar.

Lie on your back--
I will be white and blue of cloud and sky.

What did you do with your life, they'll say.

I wore bracelets,
rings,
denim and linen--

I lived.
I breathed.

For you.

  1. Agree with Kerry. The short phrases and simple lines work well with the clean and basic yet lilting and ever-lifting sentiments, and the image of constancy evoked.

  11. Very beautiful and romantic poem. I used to wear quite a bit of jewelry. At this point I work night shift in an assisted living facility, and I wear neither jewelry nor makeup.
