So Dark Is The Night

They said,

Let God's love fill your heart,

And shine on you

With holy light.

But oh.

Oh,

So hard are the hours,

The dead hours I spend without you

And

So dark is the night.

They said,

Let God's love fill your heart,

And shame the devil

With His truth.

But oh,

Oh,

My heart is like shale,

Splintered shale that falls with my tears

Here

Without you.

They said,

Let God's love fill your heart,

Give Him your wounds

To heal them from within.

But oh,

Oh,

Let your nails break my skin,

Your red nails that make me know I'm alive

Screaming

Out my hymn.

They said,

Let God's love fill your heart,

With holy light;

But,

So hard are the hours,

So dark is the night.

  3. Thanks, Arts & P, and lil Sharkbutt and his foodchik!

This one was kind of fun to write. A lady had told me that lack of physical love can be overcome by being filled with God's love. I thought, what hooey, and wrote this. God can't spoon me.

  4. Yes Fireblossom, "God can't spoon you" but only God can inspire you to write a deeply moving and passionate poem on the truth to the saying; "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." It is not easy, but it is real, it is fully heartfelt, and it is fully human. To me, that is more powerful and eternal than the infatuations of our youth

  6. A obsessively romantic hymn-poem,
as only you can write shayfire,
    your heart shows beautifully.

  10. Very well expressed. I do not think that God's love can replace human love. Both are important...but different!

  12. The last two lines say it all.

    "So hard are the hours,
    So dark is the night."

This is a poem filled with so much feeling! And, as another poet said, loneliness.

  14. So beautiful and sad and filled with longing...

Oh, "they" say so many things. While filling oneself with God's love is nice in theory, to the heart tried by pain, having someone tangible by your side is much more comforting, I think.

  17. I really like this poem. So long are the hours, so dark is the night indeed without human love. God's love trancends time and space, which I guess is why it is more difficult for us humans to feel. He could spoon your soul maybe? (smiles!)
