she got a different hound
a different child
and the lady herself
is of a different mind
don't just drop by
she ain't havin it
don't park your piece of shit in her drive
she ain't havin it
she sit in a dragon's jaw
writing what she writes
with a leopard's claw
she got suburban juju
it's in her eyes
she make native blades and magic
and a mean pecan pie.

for Real Toads
She's one of a kind!
ReplyDeleteWOW! "she sit in a dragon's jaw writing what she writes with a leopard's claw" - you write in a genre all your own, Shay and you SO should be famous! Someone is missing the boat.
ReplyDeletethis made me laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteVoodoo Donuts are orgasmic!!! I'd kill my grandmother for one of their maple bacon ones if she weren't already dead!
ReplyDeleteThis is wicked good! Watch out for that suburban juju!
What a coincidence - I was actually listening to The Doors when I read this post.
ReplyDeleteOh, Shay, no wonder so many Toads chose your home to write about. You are amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love that second stanza, but it makes me homesick. When I lived alone, in a different province, people dropped by all the time. Now I'm married, and a stranger in a strange land. No one ever drops by, and only my family phones.
Oh, listen to me bitch. At least I get dragged around the world by the scruff of my neck.
Don't know who your poem is about, but it is wicked good.

No point in me even trying to guess--I'd better start paying more attention! I like the dragon's jaw and the leopard's claw . . . maybe Izy? Susie?
ReplyDeleteDamn I want to party with this courageous chick! Mama Zen is my guess!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of Mudbone's Miss Rudolph - you don't want to mess with her. Great poem ShaLaLa.
ReplyDeleteI've not been around long enough to know who this is but I like her. If she's got suburban juju, she's my kind of gal.
ReplyDeleteMy hero
ReplyDeleteMorrison's mesmerizing baritone. "she has a house and garden.."
ReplyDeleteHa Ha! She IS exciting! I almost wrote about you but needed more time :)
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I love your last two stanzas. :) I was going to ask if Coal wrote this, but then I saw in your tags that she did. Love it!
ReplyDeleteIf you're not writing about yourself, I'd say this describes MZ ... not putting up with anyone's unannounced visits or crappy cars in her driveway. Although, I'll bet she's all wit and bite in poetry but sweet (and sarcastic) as pecan pie in person.
P.S. Awesome picture.
ReplyDeleteThis poem provided just the bit of whimsy I needed this evening.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shay.
This is awesome!
ReplyDelete^^^^it's about MZ. :-)
ReplyDelete(forgot I was supposed to come back and say that.)
