They came a long way
to bring that kid swag.
They pretended not to notice
the livestock
and the funky digs.
Natch, it did finally shake down
to wood, nails, and vinegar,
but still, he blew it off
cos they didn't know what they'd done.
Me neither.
Can't you forgive me?

A heart as big as yours must always be forgiven, Shay. Because it is True Blue. (pssst-watch for a package in the mail:))
ReplyDeleteI love the tone of this. You always manage to say what no one else would even think of.
ReplyDeleteYour opening killed me. Dang clever piece.
ReplyDeletePowerful!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mama Zen, you say what no one else would think of and in some cases wouldn't be brave enough to say.
ReplyDeleteForgiven 100 times over! It's not about writing a letter to Santa, is it :)
ReplyDeleteYes. May you receive everything on your lists--I suspect, though, that you have already been forgiven!
ReplyDeleteSure can.
ReplyDeleteI think MZ has summed it up in her comment. I'll just grit my teeth and try harder next time...
ReplyDeleteLoved it, every word and intonation.
I am sure you have been!!
ReplyDeleteI really like it. A certain simplicity, innocence, acceptance. Real and straight forward. Cuts to the heart of the matter. A reminder. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteDag Hammarskjold
Dag had it right, for a brooding Nordski. Some of us are not very good at it, are we? Still, we need to learn. An expressive short piece, and I agree with everything Scott says above.
of course.
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is the best thing I've read in a long time. Kudos.
Stated well...in brevity and your unique style...nicely done, Shay.
ReplyDeleteCatblossom and Professor Whiskers a tad out of their element? ... no doubt as to the excellence of this Christmas wish.
ReplyDeleteAlways wise and tasty, mi amiga
ReplyDeleteFeliz Navidades!
Beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteI love the truth in your form ;D
ReplyDeleteMama Zen truly said it best. Amazing poem.
