Athena--Mama said
not to go out in the
garden
barefoot
after it rains.
Ignore her. Do
it anyway.
You are a Goddess--
the Earth moves at
your whim,
between
your toes.
Athena--every foot-
print you ever make
will be
erased
eventually.
Never mind that.
Never mind Mama.
Go change
the world
by walking barefoot
in the mud, by
picking a
flower, by
being you, right now, in the world as it is.

for Hannah's "footprints" challenge. I hope it's adequate; I don't feel much like writing.
This is brilliant in it's simplicity, with self-evident rhythm, and ageless messages well conveyed. I write some poetry. YOU are an unrecognized great poet.
ReplyDeletebeautiful...
ReplyDeleteSo refreshing and a delight to read.
ReplyDeleteLovely, my friend.
ReplyDeleteIn the world as it is, changed by the smallest footstep. This reminds me of the gold circle pins we wore in high school--so simple, so complete.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, my friend. That is our challenge......to be us, and all right, in the world, right now, as it is. Sigh. And we want the path to be wondrous for those baby girls just starting out.
ReplyDeleteYour definition of "adequate" is another person's soaring writing.
ReplyDeleteit's beautiful, Shay ~
ReplyDeleteThat's right, don't listen, don't be limited by another person's limitations!
ReplyDeleteThis is very sound advice, Shay. Sometimes it is necessary to throw caution to the wind and just go where the heart leads.
ReplyDeleteVulnerable & virtuous...just like Hemingway's words you subscribe to in your sidebar.
ReplyDeleteWhat captures me is the necessity of true connection with Gaia and the most straight forward solution is bare foot on bare earth...it's proven medicine. Thank you, so much Shay, for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFor every girl. I love this.
ReplyDeleteBe free and make footprints everywhere! Although not permanent they point the way to experience.
ReplyDeleteYou reawakened the child in me with this one
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend
Much love...
The world as it is can be a mighty scary place ~~ having said that, I feel like slipping out of my shoes, dancing in the mud!
ReplyDeleteI think starting making your footprint early is a sound way of being yourself... The sharp rocks cust the cautionous foot deepest.
ReplyDeletethe image of toes in the mud, of our imprint not lasting forever... of picking a flower. Everything is gentle and soft - yet daring us to make a difference - even it it will never be noticed by everyone - someone or something will be effected (affected?) . Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm walking right along with her! Beautiful images :)
ReplyDeleteSweet! And isn't every child a goddess (or god) in their own little corner of the world? Nicely done! :)
ReplyDeleteOh to walk as who you are... I am learning another's view of me cannot dull the shine of who I am. Beautiful
