ocean roll and sway in my ear
tell me no
but I'm deaf to reason.
Tell me go and I'll go until the lights
fade low and the moon shines mad
tell me go
but I'm blind to reason.
The stair is dark as a plum is cool
the rail is smooth as your naked skin
tell me no
but with a tongue you know I'll understand.

finding some Bits of Inspiration on the stairway (to Heaven.)
Ummmm....Whew! Fanning myself with this one. There's a mixture of leave with a whisper of stay. I so love your staircase reference falling into that ending. Thanks so much for writing!!
ReplyDeleteOh WOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW! I am so glad i didnt read this before writing mine, or i wouldnt have botheted. This is just sizzling good.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid to ask what Yes and Stay would sound like in this tongue. A staircase in cataract, perhaps. Buckle up.
ReplyDeleteLovers sing in this tongue, and find each other, and lose each other, and themselves, in the melody it carries. You take the metaphor and put it to bed here, making that stairway end in a very Greek sort of heaven, that is, a place where souls go to spend eternity, and who knows if what they find is better than what they had?...or so I read. A beautiful piece, Shay.

ReplyDelete- perfect image and perfectly placed ...
a hymn, a petition, a prayer, a plea, an admonition ...
this reminds me of something dark, moody and definite with a Cohen vibe to it ....
and this line
the rail is smooth as your naked skin
has me thinking on polished wood - the act before the preparation - the sanding, the staining etc. and then, how many other hands have touched, the wearing of this smoothness .... this is just dancing in my head Shay!
This is just luscious to read
ReplyDeletewhew.
ReplyDeletethis has the verve and swerve of blues, for sure.
and as one blind to reason... square center chest, here.

It is clear that this should be read in moaning whispers, while naked, and sweating in mad delight.
ReplyDeleteNo is not an answer...
ReplyDeletethere is so much passion here, and I can really sense how it came from those stairway to heaven...
the moon shines mad is exactly the same.
Sadly (or is it gladly) 'No' is often used as a plea for the opposite as the thrill of the chase comes to a climax...or something like that. Being blind toreason is a wonderful feeling.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is as intriguing as its matching photo.
