End Of The Road (At Least For Now)

Things are not going so well here in the land of Danny's Coffee Shop. Though this blog is the thing I love best in all the world (after Bosco), I find that I have no desire to write any more poems. Basically, I would like to sleep for about three years. So, I may feel better tomorrow, or not at all, I really don't know.

  6. I am so amazed at the rate you write poems. It's like a spring that never ends. For now the spring has to subside and I understand.Godspeed beautiful Shay...

  7. It's August...the month that never seems to end, along with the oppressive heat. I, too, get depressed in August and want to cover my head and stay in bed till the first hints of Autumn. Give your muse a vacation until Fall. The changing seasons are always a HUGE inspiration to me. For some reason, a new season gives me hope. Your poems are my lifelines many days, and my muses. I hope this feeling passes. Sendings hugs, love and "poor babies"! xo

  8. Every soul - no matter how creatively versed - needs to rest and recapture the magic that makes the soul creative in the first place. Honor the need for the stillness, Shay.

  9. I know what you mean. So sleep and wander a bit. Check in now and then. Doesn't have to be a poem.

  10. I've come to love interacting with this space, Shay, but there is a real world which demands our attention and mental energy too... sometimes, something must take a back seat. I do hope your sabbatical from writing provides you with a sense of renewal and composure, and that you return reinvigorated from a well-deserved break. Take care.

  11. Oh girl. I'm sorry. I keep wanting to step away from my blog, too, but I'm afeard I won't ever start writing again.

I keep pushing the writing even when things feel the worst. It's such an outlet.

Remember to keep exhaling...no matter what. We hold our breath waiting for the next bad thing sometimes...

    Hugs and peace.

  12. Losing your words is like losing a child or lover. I hope I won't have to, but sometimes in life, all the worst things happen. I know you are more than just a gifted poet, a generous and warm-hearted woman, and a fine human being--I know you're also a fighter who's won so many battles, that the war has worn you down. But I don't believe it's in you to give up for long. So please know you are loved and important, and that I and all your readers will miss every day without a message from the genies in the bottle, and the spirits that make the ouija board speak in heretofore unknown tongues.

  14. Sometimes we need to stop and take an 'in breath' - we can only exhale so much before we run out of breath.
There is a rhythm to it and we need to allow ourselves time to fill back up. Love and hugs to you. x

  15. My previous comment got burped so ... Just about every week I get the urge to throw all my poems in a trash bin and never write another lick. Comes with the turf, I guess. Dunno what's got you down, but I just repeat an AA oldtimer who used to say, "Everybody get the blues sometime ..." So when yer trudging through hell, don't stop ... and don't pick up. My old pal Teddy Roethke awoke in the madhouse and wrote, "A lively understandable spirit / Once entertained you. / It will come again. / Be still. / Wait." Just don't come back as a haiku monster, OK? ... Cheers from the blubbly blue yonder down under the floorboards ... Brendan

  16. I know this feeling.

I think we all get to that point of feeling no words are left.

You WILL feel good again. And your words will sail forth as wonderful as ever.

    Take care.

  17. Shay,
Sending you a big hug and a virtual pot of Jewish chicken soup (that makes everything better). If you need to take a break, do it. Take care of yourself. Danny's is hanging on my wall and will always have a treasured place there. Perhaps the poem muse will return. If not, I'm sure your creativity will express itself in some other surprising way. Don't hide for too long.

Do ya need some chocolate? I'll send some.

Do ya need some homemade fudge? I'll whip some up.

How about a book? I've got a marvelous one to send you.

Let me know...Take a break, as long as you need, but please come back. (And don't come back with puppies and prancing horses and kitten crap.)

  21. I understand your sentiments, take a rest, remember we are always here, even if the desire to write something once in a blue moon comes at ya. :)

  26. Hello Shay

I am an admirer of the art and the craft of your writing and as is obvious from all the comments before me you will be missed.

I hope you will return if that is the best thing for you.

  27. Just saw your "Thank You" follow-up post in my reader and was sad to read this. I know you know how to take care of yourself, else you would not have found sobriety. Therefore, I truly trust that all will be well.

  28. Sometimes real life gets in the way, and how every much we love our blogs, they become a burden and a pressure. Then we just need to take a break and get ourselves back to a good place again. I hope you do very soon. Take care, and look after yourself.
