Lucky

Luck doesn't just happen.

It bakes. Time is the oven.

Like that? ^^

Fuckinay.

You're lucky to know me.

You could have been hit by an SUV

and ended up in the hands of a quack hiding from the Anti-Defamation League.

Geez, would you look at the weird shit in jars on his shelf

(If he existed.

If that driver hadn't swerved.)

Luck is the residue of design

like jam on a knife

at the breakfast table of infinity.

Whoa, nice, right? ^^

You were lucky when you ran out of here

carrying all that shit.

Lucky traffic was light.

Lucky the sun was up.

Lucky you got me to sign my (brilliant, fantastic) book

before you ran out of here like a chicken from the skillet,

jabbering about luck

and some other unkind hoo-ha about the funny papers.

Off to a good start, Shay. I agree and sort of believe the opposite, a bumper sticker favorite, "Sh*t Happens."

  4. That's the dirty little secret in retrospect, in time baking all the illusions we had into those coagulated cinders on the bottom of the oven. Was it us or them, or were we both lucky? Some diamond lines in this, and we all know how diamonds cut glass. Even mirrors. Stellar writing, Shay.

  5. Shay--I loved the "jam on the knife" image and the "chicken from the skillet" line. Also, that was a Janis Joplin song I'd never heard. Thanks.

  7. Well, you're right, whoa - that's a good one, the jam, the knife, and Janice's jam at the end too. Lucky I stopped in. ;-)

  9. That is just flipping brilliant, end to end. The opening is all time great: "Luck doesn't just happen.
It bakes. Time is the oven."
