For You

The voice I found
In the rich black ground--
That is not for you.

The uncertain bees
That may sting, or please--
They are not for you.

The little box where I rest my eyes,
The sarcophagus full of bottle flies--
Neither is for you.

The restoration of my better nature,
The eternal enhancement of every feature--
None of that is for you.

My spit, my sex,
Whatever comes next--
Not, and never, for you.

Your boon is what Love only claims to be--
Intact and intense never-endingly;
Receive my Hatred--
That is for you...
My gift, eternal and true.

  3. Not to worry, Brian. Unlike yesterday's poem, this one isn't about anything actual. I simply got the idea for the not for you/ for you structure, and went with it. That, combined with a notion to write a poem about a banshee, ended up being this.

  4. Cleansing. True hate is when you don't even want to give them your flies. There are a few, thankfully few, I've felt that way about. I love the inexorable, intensifying progression, and the final two stanzas are the knockout blow. That penultimate stanza--it shouts righteously.

  11. Sounds like she's had enough and knows how to walk away without looking back. Nice flow, and interesting word play with the title.

  12. This poem is too kind for my very few but very real enemies; most of all it is too intelligent and too well written. I wouldn't put such a feast before their eyes. Fabulous as always, Shay, just fab. Gay

  15. I'm glad Brian asked the question. Great work! Just hoping you're not about to throw the nearest child into a wood chipper ;-)

Happy or sad, mad or glad, we'll always be eternal and true to ya!

  21. Shocking! I guess that's what's poetically good about it --- sure made me sit up and take notice; a blossom on fire!

  23. Brutally good; this one (as the last "love" poem) has some real meat to it that is just so dang raw - love it ~

  28. Eternal hatred, oooh...chica, I don't want to be on the receiving end of this one, but I must say, it is Classic Shay, extremely creative and passionately and brutally honest.
