When She Was A Boy / Kiss Me

Today a double post, both poems inspired by the photographs of Rosie Hardy at One Shoot Sunday.

WHEN SHE WAS A BOY

When she was a boy,
She wore the same eyes.

When she was young,
She was salt water ice.

Underneath,
Was a whole shit-hot world, baby.

As the days dragged by,
She gathered up her guts and left home.

She carved herself good and sharp
Right down to the bone.

They say don't read your own tarot--
But she did.

They say you can't donate your own marrow--
But she did.

Down under the ice--
A shit-hot world,

And born from that--
A beautiful girl.

____________

KISS ME

I buy fragrance
By the quart

And where I lay my head,
The wood warps.

Kiss me.
You'll live.
Kiss me.

I got
Hand-blown windows and
French doors;
And I
Come from a long proud line of
Seaside whores.

Kiss me.
You'll live.
Kiss me.

I'm an old-fashioned girl
And a
Nine-time bride;
And when I lock the door,
It rains inside.

Kiss me.
You'll live.
I ain't nothin' but a cloud fluff, cream puff,
Christian girl sure enough.

Kiss me.
You'll live.

  2. Two amazing pieces, neither to be defined in the space of a comment box. This especially spoke to me: "..I'm an old-fashioned girl/And a
    Nine-time bride;/And when I lock the door,/It rains inside..."
The first poem is exceptional in insight and feeling, as well.

and you're always in trouble with the Tombstone Blues.

  9. I especially love the first poem "when she was a boy she wore the same eyes" and "born from that a beautiful girl." In the second poem, I like the repetition of "Kiss me. You'll live."
Great writing, as always, Ms Fireblossom!

    Right down to the bone.

  13. Two poems of equal beauty, insight and great lines.. I love to dissect poems and find that one line that really pulls me north, south, east west.
"She carved herself good and sharp
Right down to the bone." and

"And when I lock the door,
    It rains inside."

    well done on both poems!!

  19. The first one captured what is most certainly anguish. "She carved herself good and sharp right down to the bone." What a powerful image.

How many flogging sessions resulted in TWO poems from the same spirit in one day?

  20. My favorite Bob Dylan song: "Love Sick" off of his Time Out Of Mind album.

"I see, I see lovers in the meadow
I see, I see silhouettes in the window
I'll watch them 'til they're gone
And they leave me hangin' on
    To a shadow."

  21. very delightful, both of them!
The first, sure courage born of persistent struggle to create an identity.
The second, tunes well with the first, it's like the same beautiful girl has grown all confident, to not hide but persuade even the mighty.
    Nice read!
