Sweet Man

He's a sweet man.
Am I allowed to say that?
He looks like
A little bottle of India ink.

It's a perfect day.
The sky is full of puffy clouds like lazy angels,
And I'd love to lay a sweet slow one on one of 'em.
Am I allowed to say that?

He's a sweet man,
Like clear water rushing over open hands.
He makes me feel peaceful, like my shit-crazy girlfriends never do.
Am I allowed to say that?

He knows I'm the kind of woman who burns the breakfast
And runs off with somebody's sister first chance I get;
But he's balm for the wounded spirit,
And I love the way he smiles when I say that.

  1. Oh, yes. You most certainly are allowed to say that. As it happens, I married my sweet man- the balm for my wounded spirit. He managed to mend the girl with the broken smile, after all.

Sweetness comes in so many sizes, shapes, forms, clouds, ink bottles, sisters, other people's sisters and, occasionally, a very special man. Or woman.

  3. Don't tell me let me guess--he plays baseball, right? ;_)

If you find a sweet one, hang on girl and don't worry about his sister. At least, that's my philosophy. Men do have their good points. And I love it when you have a perfect day full of cloud angels.

  4. I love this one, love the "am I allowed to say that?" You say anything you please, kiddo, and we will lap it up like grateful kittens. "He's balm for the wounded spirit, and I love the way he smiles when I say that." Wonderful. I love the cloud angels, too.

  10. Ha! You'd smile at the way I laughed out loud when I read you'd take off running with his sister...whoops, almost wrote "scissors." Beautiful piece, amiga! xo

  11. You can say that. Love that kitten sleeping in the hand. I'm with Ily and giggled when I read that line.

  13. Knowing that you often commune with your familiars, I have to wonder if your sweet man is human or of the feline variety? A little bottle of India ink? Hmmm...
