And so here's to you, Mister Good Advice.
The least you could do is listen
the least you could do is listen
That's what you said, Mister Cat to us
to us
to us
the little deaf mice
in our hidey hole where we cook up our plans.
There's nothing worse than the ungrateful
spiteful,
up-all-nightfull
little ratty rodents who don't get it
all the Good Advice you have to give,
on how to be
and how to live,
all we do all day is go la la la la la la
We can't hear you,
Mister Good Advice man
La la la la la and oh how you hate it when we're happy
it can't be
it can't be
it can't be right, can it?
Mister Good Advice
Mister Good Advice man.

for Fireblossom Friday at Real Toads: write a lyric.
all my lyrics are about stupid things. yours is way better.
ReplyDeleteSnappy! And you have included valid social commentary - so much 'good advice' out there, one has to wonder at the givers' intentions.
ReplyDeleteLet me give some advice . . .
ReplyDeleteYou channeled the lyrical side of Laura Nyro! Inspired!
ReplyDeletethere's something really sneaky in this one Shay--which seems so playful, yet leaves an earworm of a darker tone behind it--"oh how you hate it when we're happy.." reminds me of the old H.L. Mencken quote: "Puritanism. The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy." Loved it, and loved the prompt, thou you may wish you'd ask for poems about unicorns by the time you get to mine.;_)
ReplyDelete*asked* not ask. yeesh
ReplyDeleteLOL. I totally love it! Especially the "lalalalala".
ReplyDeleteDisney ~~ gone dark. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThis was really a brilliant prompt! I like what you've come up with here - think Elton Baum will go for it? *smile*
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of book thumpin' with the deliverance of the "good advice" I've been hearing lately. Love this!
ReplyDeletePretty darn funny. (I tend to be an advisor! How I make my living, in fact. And I am laughing. I'm not so great at it! and especially not at following.) K.
ReplyDeleteall we do all day is go la la la la la la... all the advice from every corner... I stick my fingers in my ears and go lalalalalala. I'm grinning.
ReplyDeleteLiked this a bunch! Do you remember Merrie Melodies? The dancing flowers always had something cool to say--
ReplyDeleteOh what fun! And definitely singable.
ReplyDeleteShoot! I dislike mice so much that it's hard to be generous even when they're being witty and wise. But this is quite a fine protest song.
ReplyDeleteThose mice love to play. I have a soft spot for them, yours are showing the Mister Cat, know-it-all, up really good today.
ReplyDelete..
Me get to da point !
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter !!!
Have Eggstar Fun :)
xoxo
Would love to hear that sung!
ReplyDeleteTHIS ONE IS A CLASSIC TO BE!
ReplyDeletePROMOTE IT AS IT DESERVES!

Shay, this is brill. Hats off to another Max Fleischer fan... those Betty Boop, etc., cartoons are the living end!
ReplyDeleteYour whole "we can't hear you because we are NOT LISTENING" vibe is so much fun. Perfect, using a childlike device for such adult naughtiness!! Yes, I went there. Love, Amy
