Pictures

I placed pictures
of us
on my wall.
(a white wall.)

From trees came
steps,
frames,
doors.

I set a soft gray rug
in the entryway,
and if you arrive

(after I've gone to bed)
I'll hear you

sigh
and take
the first stair.

  3. How spare, rich, lovely! All cats are gray in the dark, all lovers quicken one's pulse - esp in the dusky dark

  4. A very sweet poem; a first stair is also a first step here; it is (to me) a very subtle way to talk of reconciliation. k.
