it is in your throat
waiting for Sunday.
Where is the bell that has not yet rung?
it is in the ring
shrugging and feinting.
Where is the tongue
with which the bell will speak?
The cat took it
and left it on the porch rail.
What does the ringing bell signify?
That the priest's hand
is strong and able.
The boxer delivers his sermon.
You speak, and a shiver goes through me.
The cat is a night cat
and goes before me, always.
___________
Ring them bells. Very well done - G : )
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this so much.....ring the bells that still can ring.......
ReplyDeleteI don't know which is more compelling here, the answers or the questions. Each stanza is a peal of ideas and emotion, expressing a music which is both precise and difficult, like the brash cacophony of bells, toned down into a soft ringing that sits in the bones. It's been awhile since Cat Angel walked the alleys. Good to see her back.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI second what Joy said. I love how you stir the mind with questions that stir the heart as well!
