There is a funeral for a thing that was never alive
and so they had to create and then kill it. "Hold still," they advised it. "Don't you want what we are trying to give you? You don't seem to know who your friends are." Such bonhomie is rare, especially during the commission of a homicide. Finally the thing lay still, like a word on the tip of a tongue. There is a funeral, and at the funeral, weeping. "We gave it life, yet in return it only cursed us." Afterward, there are cakes and cookies, and hearty bonhomie.
Makes me think of AI and killer dog robots. Gah! Fave line: "Finally the thing lay still, like a word on the tip of a tongue."
