Pressure, Low and High
You can smell what will fall from Heaven before it does--
Poppies are just drops of blood on the cool skin of the Earth.
A woman's arm has that bend for holding babies--
But when the sky is never close enough,
She will gather in what she pleases.
Lovers with hearts of ice or cinders--
Dream-beasts with rolling eyes and teeth for every wound,
Razors,
Needles.
On the flat line of the horizon,
You can see blurry cotton-ball houses in the path of the storm...
Angels and demons moan there together
In the rush.
Nature is nothing but emotion given scope and voice--
She is mindless, yet understands viscerally
Any furious, hopeless seeking
After unreachable peace
And impossible equilibrium.

Oh Shay, your poetry always gets me right good deep in my soul. *standing ovation*
Moody and wicked good, with the second stanza just blowing me away...and there's not much of me left to roll tumbleweed fashion before the force of the final three. The cotton ball houses, the angels and demons commingled as they do constantly in natures kaleidoscope...just excellent. Raise the bar much higher and it will be flying off into the sun, Shay. Pressure seems to bring out your best, at least here.
You have really captured the unquenchable nature of nature.
The "flat line of the horizon..." I love that the line can be taken in two ways...Nice play on words.
i love a good storm, for me it screams passion...i usually scream right back as it inches toward me...i too am rather fond of the comminling there, its an honest appraisal...this is tight shay.
You know the heart of a woman so well and the many senses and the loves and feelings and failings of life...you are amazing.
Thank you for sharing your poetry with us the honor is all ours..

Oh my goodness, this one is astounding. So many great images and lines.....and then "unreachable peace and impossible equilibrium." You string your words together like nobody else can. Just fantastic. Tell me again why you arent famous? You should be!!!!!!!
Awesome, as usual! "Poppies are just drops of blood on the cool skin of the Earth"--amazing line! And I love the dream-beasts with "teeth for every wound." Great imagery, Shay.
i love that, nature is nothing but emotion given scope and voice.
A gift for me this morning - your poems.
Very nice poem. Wonderful images!

I like the first line the best. It's a line that could become an inspirational quote.
"A woman's arm has that bend for holding babies--
But when the sky is never close enough,
She will gather in what she pleases."
These lines are amazing. They could be a poem all by themselves.
Absolutely beautiful.
