Opening the Spider Box

opening the spider box
reveals a soft egg supported
on eight shades of darkness.

its fingertip venom kiss
is the slowing of all senses,
memory, hope, everything.

all i can tell you is,
set your hands to anything, move your feet anywhere
the box is not, and it will buy you another morning to think it over.

  1. The metaphor only improves with this incarnation. Cold as spider feet on your neck, but not nearly as unwelcome, because reading anything you write is always an experience,a literal trip. Congrats on staying out of the web, and outside the box.

  2. That opening stanza is cold-blood amazing. What a metaphor for a depressed state of mind.

  3. A spider box with eight shades of darkness is a startling image for depression that nonetheless holds a note of hope in the final phrase.

  4. SOMEWHERE THE BOX IS NOT is a good idea. I hear you in your tag about not answering the phone-also wise.

  6. That video is fan-freakin-tastic! Except for snorting coffee out my nose.

Which reminds me, as I rinsed out the coffee pot this morning, a spider came out! But was washed down the sink before I could save it.

as for the poem, you've caught it, and I'm hoping for another morning and feet moving. ~

  7. WoW! Sorry to be so boringly bowled over by your inventions but I AM, so deal with it!

Gloria's "I will survive" truly contributed to me doing just that, Sistah

In pure response to the write: outstanding.

  9. You know...I keep trying to not hate spiders. But everything in your metaphor resonates so deep.

Oh, and the video - nearly fell off my chair laughing! Merry (late) Christmas!
