You

I was thinking about you,
as the fan hummed in the window--
as the stars spun slowly above my little street--

I couldn't help myself from thinking about you,
as five white birds skimmed over the near rise--
while their mirror sisters gathered--
first one,
then two,
into their warm nest--
the other three fluttering near.

I was thinking about you, Sweetheart.
Did birds fly across the stars outside your window?
Did you know?

bet the birds did fly over her window but she might not have seen them for her eyes were closed dreaming about you

  2. Should I bang a gong? (Your labels are almost always "dessert" after reading your poem.)

That opening stanza is so sweet and so summery. (Even though I hate the summer weather, I loved this poem.)

  9. It makes me suspicious when your dish is sweet. Maybe the irony-shaker needs refilling :-)?

  10. It is interesting to me as I took this poem as being quite mordant--in the sense of the loved one not being aware of this type of beauty--not looking--so not quite a love poem from my perspective--more a poem of discovering misunderstandings--though certainly suggestive and intense. k. 12. … "I couldn't help myself" makes me think "she" is someone who is no longer part of her life. Does a past love ever think back too, and yearn a bit for what was? I think we have all done that, wondered…

I could be WAY off - but the Did you know" almost could be "Do you care"…

    Either way, very evocative.
