Mrs. Sartre At The Beauty College

I said to the stylist at the salon,
"All is darkness."
From the pocket of her smock, a candle
with which she beat me about the head and shoulders.

"Behold, I give you light," she said.
"Crazy motherfucker!"
Who hired this bitch?
Wax in my hair.
Will an indifferent Stylist mold me at Her whim?
________

for my BFF Hedgewitch's Friday 55 bash, and also for Play It Again (existentialism) at Toads. Also for day 12 of my 39 poems in 39 days.

  1. Nothing more existential than existence, they say. This is full of your trademark irreverence and wit, and it also made me laugh out loud at the wax. Almost as bad as chewing gum, both outside the skull, and in it when absorbed through the eyes and ears before the altar of the cathode ray. Thanks for playing today,Shay, and thus for making the approaching weekend kick a little more ass.

  6. Cackling. My hir is an existential quandary all in itself. I will need the mother of all haircuts on the other side of the virus.

That's brilliant. Reminder to inflict our poetic darkness outside the home, and not just keep them in poems where they do no harm. If I told people what I really think they would be me about the head and shoulders. I like the last line too.
