There is a fox wrapped around your eye,
his black front feet like lashes,
his back like a ginger bang.
They say a person with a fox around their eye
is shy but up
to something,
makes a poor pet
and makes you miss the morning,
caught like a rooster's neck in the charm of their
quick and
toothy grin.

This speaks to me, "never trust or follow a fool who doesn't know where they are headed or what they stand for. But the brilliant truth is this could take you a multiple of fox holes. Sheer brilliance as always my friend. You go deep, write deeper, and keep us on our toes. I love that!!
ReplyDeleteGinger bang is a savage title. Love the cautionary tale to watch out for a fox wrapped around someone else's or your own eye. Pretty teeth always pull us in.
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Damn!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the black front feet like lashes, and the rooster's neck caught in the charm of that toothy grin. How do you do it? Dont tell us. I like it better when you just show us in your poems. So brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThe title!! Now, foxy fellows do gobble up :)
ReplyDeleteThe brevity here adds to the tension of the image, which threatens even as it charms. It seems almost whimsical at first with its lashes and bangs, but it cuts like a cold knife with its final lines. Stunning snd perfect, Shay.
ReplyDeleteThose last four lines--wow!
ReplyDeleteShould I stay ~~ or should I run? Run I think. Ginger Bang, which came first? Title or poem?
ReplyDeletePoem was first but that phrase pleased me so much it seemed like the obvious title.
DeleteOh I love this! I am definitely a fox at times...hiding in plain sight ready to strike if needed :)
