Hollyhocks, sunflowers, marigolds
in a field by a white barn waving
where the orange cat searches for the little voles
hollyhocks, sunflowers, marigolds
just a stone's throw over from the spring foals
and the little stream its low banks laving
hollyhocks, sunflowers, marigolds
in a field by a white barn waving.

An excellent ekphrastic poem! I love the repetition --- the idea that the flowers are waving in the breeze. Your orange cat and spring foal fit right into the scene. I enjoyed this very much! Thanks so much for writing to the photo --- it's always been a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteAnother one where the form beautifullly suits the message, the visuals echoed in its music. Your word choice is exceptionally creative and craftsmanlike. A picture in words that perfectly reflects the subject
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!!! The blooms against the white barn........perfection of form..........a feast of imagery. Hollyhocks always take me back to my Grandma's yard in the long ago. I love to be reminded.
ReplyDeleteWe wave with the flowers and the wind in the poem.
ReplyDeleteLove all the flowernames in the repeated lines.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely and so visual the photo is not even needed.
ReplyDeleteDelightful, Shay. The repetition is perfect, and I love the orange cat searching for the little voles. I want to live there!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem, Shay! I love the singsong feel of it.
