I am a human
raised by a robot
cut loose in the garden
carried on the water
carried on the water
cared for by the winter
and my mind--that's ice
nice nice very nice.
nice nice very nice
making poetry from paper birds
and a magpie in flight
under a fragrant sun
under a fragrant sun
cut loose in a garden grove
where the robot rusts, in time we trust
carried on the water like the rest.

they stole it from Kurt Vonnegut.
I love this so much! A really cool form. I must try it. Love the repeated lines, especially love "making poetry from paper birds" and the fragrant sun. A beauty of a poem. Thanks for linking, Shay. This poem is a delight to read.
ReplyDeleteA human raised by a robot is an interesting concept. That perhaps will be the future of humanity. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI really didn't mean any of this poem all that seriously, Mary.
DeleteI like this form, and how it suggests a robot's repetitions and a child "cut loose in garden grove" playing. "Nice, nice, very nice."
ReplyDeleteLove the word play. I'm sure I'd make a mess with this form. "I am a human raised by a robot." I feel like I've been raised by a roomba. :)
ReplyDeleteNice, nice, very nice. That repetitive manner is EXACTLY on target. We were drinking from the same well this week, Shay. Or the same bottle, hee hee.
ReplyDeleteGlad I stopped by for this one. It has a real lilt to it that is rhythmic and musical, human to its frivolous core and far from anything robotic. And it has birds. I also like the form and if you invented it, that makes it even better. Lots of fun, and not even slightly devoid of content, either.
ReplyDeleteI like the playfulness. "and my mind--that's ice /nice nice very nice." Cool.
ReplyDeleteI love those paper birds - they feel very strong and soar so high _ Jae
ReplyDeleteNice, nice, very nice. Ice not so nice, LOL! But of all if it, this is what hits my heart: “making poetry from paper birds / and a magpie in flight” Just beautiful language and imagery.
