How To Do The End Of The World Cha Cha

Convinced of the End Times, Neighbor Jim
MacGyvers up a companion from old soup cans,
paint brushes, stereo wire and car parts,

A sort of Bride of Frankenstein to ease Armageddon
with chicken pot pies and a surprisingly
avid libido.

One day she comes across the common alley
for a woman-to-woman, making certain things clear about
Neighbor Jim, my skank ass, and Fist City.

Watching her walk away, dragging her dinosaur tail on the lawn,
I envy her those spinal plates, round-so-round
vulcanized boobs, and blowy porn-model Medusa hair.

I'm saying she's dishy, in a home appliance kind of way.
There is a tender grace to the way she lights the candles with her tongue
as she and Neighbor Jim while away the evenings

Watching This Old House on the generator-powered tv,
waiting on the six trumpets of Revelation as if they were the Tijuana Brass
doing a hotel gig on the last day of a bang-up Cancun vaykay.

Mixed Marriage

"We are not like other families,"

remarked my father

impaled sideways through his head by a stick,

feet dancing in thin air.

My mother wore black crepe

though her husband lived yet, suspended,

and I, the fruit of her womb, refused her invitation

to stay still beneath her fingers at the bottom of the bath.

We had a dog with a nervous condition

and a ghost in the basement by the water softener.

My father covered the story and his un-impaled eye,

seeing old sweethearts in his dreams.

Mother tried to move me into the basement incinerator,

but was prevented by the ghost.

Daddy liked swing music and Dixieland jazz,

insisting the stick was a clarinet and the dog Benny Goodman,

And though not observant, he did walk on Saturdays.

Gypsy

I'm a Gypsy--
kiss me hard, see if I'm not.

Ain't no peace in the graveyard, babe--
onliest choice is dance or rot.

My scent's like leaves, like rain near dusk--
chase that scent like the wolf pack does.

Squeeze my throat with a soft sure hand--
Gypsy heart at your command.
