(for Liz)
I've been thinking about you, and the years we spent together--
I rarely do,
But a blue moon rose in the sky last night;
And you were the nightbird flying across it.
I don't know why I thought
That my way was the best to do,
And I don't know why you thought
That others should take care of you.
I don't think you'd know me now,
The lady in the gardening hat;
I'm more humble, and I'm older,
But none the worse for all of that.
Still, I've been thinking about you,
And how it was until we lost it,
Because a blue moon rose in the sky last night
With a nightbird flying across it.

This is beautiful, it isn't bitter. But, it is sweet and difficult memories intertwined and that is what makes it so lovely.
ReplyDeleteGrace, I'm glad you feel that I've struck the right tone here. I'm glad someone commented on this little orphan.
ReplyDelete"I don't think you'd know me now"
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to think that, though it may be true. Perhaps the truth is you never actually knew each other at all?
Hugs. x
