Sometimes a bird gets inside the house.
Sometimes they shoot a man into space,
And oh, the look,
The look on their face.
Some haven't got the sense to stay home,
And some can't tell
Up from down,
Their ass from a big damn hole in the ground.
Some don't know
Their butt from next week,
Much less their place, and oh the look,
The look on their face.
Sugar pea, check out the trees--
It's spring, and everything is in bloom;
Everyone we see
Wishes they were you and me
Like Angel 1 and Angel 2
The smartest gals in the room.
Sometimes a dog goes off its chain,
Running hell for Tuesday down the lane,
And oh, the look,
The look on its face.
Ladybug, ladybug, why rush to go home?
Your husband's asleep,
Your children are grown,
And the condo people will keep the lawn mowed.
There's a mint on the pillow,
A magnum in place,
When you blush, I just love the look,
The look on your face.
Sugar pea, check out the trees--
It's spring, and everything is in bloom.
Reality
Is just you and me,
Angel 1 and Angel 2
The smartest gals in the room.

I love the lilting quality of this poem, the bits of near-rhyme, the lovely, whimsical images...
ReplyDeleteA poem a day by Shay keeps the blues away!
Who is it that jumps in where angels fear to tread? I'd say this pair has overcome trepidation and is high on the path to elation. Lovely sing-songy feel just makes this seem playful and casual, yet within its overall goodness are all the usual chocolate chips of Fireblossom extras. And it seems to pick up the rejuvenated feel of the photo, also. Excellent antidote for a grey day.
ReplyDeleteCute.
ReplyDeleteCute? Hells yeah! This is cute and then some...
ReplyDeleteI love the upbeat, walking on air feel of springtime.. it's an e.e. cummings kind of day, and these two angels are smart enough to figure out the good stuff.
Love the progression of the repetition, among other things. Great response to Daryl's photo.
What a smart piece.:)
ReplyDeleteYup, I'd say you're the smartest gal in the room! What a fun piece, I can imagine this as a song.
ReplyDeleteSo funny and, as always, lightly lined with edge.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo, too! Happy weekend, Shay...
Beautifully written!
ReplyDeleteLove the rhythm here, Shay, it simply bounces along, singing its own sweet song.
