Sevenling (Noble Steeds)

Time was, you loved my riding boots,
My jacket snug,
My crop;

Our busy lives have made that moot,
No time for bridle or bit--
Our noble steeds reduced in needs,

Just eat and quarrel and shit.

  1. I knew you would choose this picture! And how well you have factored in the human element. You have such a wise and knowing way of opening up our relationships for scrutiny, and do not hesitate to include a sting.

    This is great.

  2. Sharp and true. That last line was such a wonderful contrast to the lines about the boots and jacket and crop. (WTF is in your coffee this morning? ;)

  4. You manage to pack a world of innuendo and inference and mood into these few lines, which of course, is the point of this form..I love especially the 'jacket snug.' And the last line, totally agree--fertile ground neglected often produces the most noxious weeds.

  5. Love Mama Zen's comment. You say more in seven lines than many do in seventy.

  9. Subtle, bleak, and to the point. Much like the majority of my life. Unsure if I should laugh or cry.

  12. Nah ah! Nope, you're wrong
    I'll never tire of that jacket, those boots, the swish of the crop.

    What are the horses for?

  17. Sad beneath the broad laugh, but I trust that this is not true. If true, only temporary. And if temporary, no harm came to actual animals.

  18. Perfect! That last line is awesome -- you can take it at face value with the horses or take it much, much further. Love it!
