"Children are the only ones who blush." --Lou Reed
The poissonier said to Marcel Proust,
"It isn't always about you.
I've got my own fish to fry."
Nemesis said to Narcissus,
"Get over yourself.
Eat those feewings, and stay out of the water.
Mott the Hoople met a frog and a local beauty for lunch,
and Pharaoh Menes came all the way from Memphis.
The menu was all-natural,
but none of them much liked being told to eat shit.

"and stay out of the water." Outstanding.
ReplyDeleteKnow how many times I've told someone to get over themselves. There are a lot of people who think they are better than everyone else. Really annoys me when I meet people like this.
ReplyDeleteThat was really fun! Love when poets make me think :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Love the humor and intellect in this one!
ReplyDeleteOpening stanza...true that!!
ReplyDeleteThe first Mott the Hoople song I was unfamiliar with...The second one I knew well (didn't remember that was the title) and made me go zooming back four (yikes!) decades.
ReplyDeleteA very clever response to the hunger theme.
ReplyDeleteClever and full of sly references.
ReplyDeletetrue
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine a better way to open a poem than by quoting a mental patient. Nor can I imagine a better way to close a poem than you have here.
ReplyDeleteSo tried to listen to the music - maybe he should have stuck to writing lyrics and not singing them? (sorry)…
ReplyDeleteSometimes mental patients can be spot on… I really do like opening poems with quotes.
… and Narcissus - do people like this ever take advice?
I'm sure those sly references went over my head … I'm just not educated enough ;P
ReplyDeleteI can just say that an all natural menu got a new taste for me :-) need to tune in to some new (old) music I think
ReplyDeleteMaybe Narcissus is blushing along with the children? My own fish! hahaha. Clever and cool. I didn't get the last stanza, sorry.
ReplyDeletelike the sound of it, but i had to read and re read then reread again
ReplyDeleteThis is quite interesting and left me still thinking about meanings and metaphors
much love...
Lol, "Get over yourself" :o)
ReplyDeleteI feel a rebel yell coming on-lol!
ReplyDeleteI love this and you mentioned Marcel-one of my fav!
