A Bicyclist's Verse

for Emily

A Wheel is a fair curious Thing--

Traversing toward Age from Birth--

It moves, at once, toward Heaven,

And also, back to Earth.

  1. Shay---Most people would use the word "fairly" instead of "fair," but your choice gave it an old-world feel...

Such a simple idea, yet put in such a profound way. WTF did you threaten those spirits with, to come up with this gem during the GBBO (Great Blog Black Out)?

  5. Shay, I agree with what Sioux said about "fair" vs. fairly. Beautifully written...short and sweet and the image is perfect. Miss you, amiga!

PS - I'll hurt Brian for you. ;)

  7. Very much in the spirit of Emily--love the caps. She might have enjoyed biking--in a veil or something. I've always thought of wheels as eating the distance, with their inexorable revolving movement, the future road becoming the road in the rearview, and your metaphor takes it even further and better very naturally.
