Superfluous Raccoons!

I love raccoons! I have several toy ones scattered around my house, and Bosco has one too. I think I like that they are smart and clean and steal stuff.

I didn't write a new poem since Monday. So sue me! Here are superfluous raccoons instead!

  5. I would rather catch rabies from a raccoon than an opossum any day of the week. But that's just me...

  7. You've obviously never had a thirty pound Oklahoma raccoon hiss at you and grab a bag of marshmallows out of your hand. The cuteness vanishes when the fangs come out...well, unless you like fangs.

  8. One of my favorite books when I was growing up was "Rascal." I dreamed of having a pet raccoon. (In part of the book, Rascal gets a sugar cube and of course, he washes it before he eats it but of course, the sugar cube disappeared. I think he did it several times, each time puzzled about what happened.)

Herman Turnip reminded me of a family trip we took when I was a kid. We stopped at a reststop for lunch. When we threw our trash away, we saw a mother opossum lying on top of the trash (way down in the can) with her babies. I could not understand it: my father would not let us take one of them home as a pet. (They were so cute and pink.)

  9. Once had a pet raccoon... his best friend was our dog and together
they could get into the most mischief....

But my favorite coon was a
Davy Crockett coon skin cap that
I got for my 6th birthday.

I was looking out out kitchen window one morning, when a creature went by looking a bit furtive. I thought, "That cat has such a huge tail." But it was a raccoon! Someone at the condos put out a humane cage trap to catch it, but it was way too smart to go in. They only they only kept catching my neighbor's cat Twiggy.
