Curious

I am curious
and I am not the first,
but I am the one who is here now

And perhaps,
my curiosity is the kind
that your secrecy has desired.

I want to know
how your dark eyes look
when you're restless under the pull
of a full moon;

I want to know
how your skin feels, palm to heartbeat,
smooth and wild and ready as a paint pony
at sunrise in the high grass.

I am curious, and keen to find
if my curiosity is the kind
that your secrecy has desired.

  2. Curiosity might have killed the cat, but at least s/he died knowing the truth. Awesome piece!

  3. Oh, Shay, I had a nice solemn poetry-perfect comment and then I saw your Labels: cheetahs always prosper, so how can I think straight after that.
Know what I think? I think the final stanza, although lacking gorgeous phrases like "restless under the pull of a full moon" and "smooth and wild and ready as a paint pony"...I think it is the most important stanza.

  4. Dark and inviting. A very compact work, but so well developed and balanced. Nice job.

  5. I suppose I shouldn't say "Curiosity killed the cat" so I'll just think it.

  6. Loving is all about how two do or do not complement each other--each trait brings out another--both congruences and contrasts. Secrecy does indeed call for curiosity, safety calls for risk, and isolation the comfort of company--yet each trait exists independently also. There is a dance that calls for these things to be perpetual questions, and who knows how to find the answers--maybe the pleasure lies in simply trying. A beautiful, tender poem, as always when you write of love, Shay.

  11. This poem is very Shay... danger and sensuality mixed to perfection! Love how unafraid you are to tackle these themes. The cheetah definitely looks curious, so I'd watch my step... ha ha Amy

  14. I love the first verse. It made me smile.

Also, the words "palm to heartbeat"...now that's sexy:~)

Sometimes your tags crack me up, especially "Cheetahs always prosper" and "close encounters of the curious kind" This last should be the title of poem or short story.

  15. I love that I want to know how your skin feels, palm to heartbeat- the rhythm of it, the sensuality of it, the gorgeous uniqueness of palm to heartbeat. I can feel the love.
