Catholic

Archbishop Vigneron of Detroit declares
that people who support gay marriage should not present themselves for holy communion.

Look, altar boys come and go,
and what's the big deal about a few stray Nazis carrying suitcases
with stickers for sunny Italy and sweet, safe South America?
They gave us head,
or the odd work of art;
can't a few trivial matters be overlooked?

But you two, saying you're in love,
get the fuck out of here,

and send in Fritz
with a young friend to take my mind off such abominations.

I confess I blew the word limit for Mama Zen's Words Count at Real Toads. I hope she will absolve me.

  1. Those are the sorts who never confess--or admit--fault or sin, always the first to perceive it in others. I say if you get the hell you believe in, they are headed there, suitcase in hand, where they will get not even so much pity as a swatted wasp. A fine, sharp short one, Shay.

  2. lost my interes in the 'catholic' institution when they excommunicated my mamasita because she divorced an abusive man to my sister and us boys when we were young. such hippocrits and selective tollerance and intollerance. that bishop probably has a large mansion he lives in paid by the sunday collections.

excuse me for this play on words, shay, but you hit it 'right on the head'.

  3. Powerful poem, but I have to admit that the hidden confession at the end, about blowing the word limit, had me giggling!!! *smile* Brilliant twist!

  5. I knew from opening words of this one, I was going to be angry. I've never understood how blind and hypocritical religious leaders can be and it's not just Catholics.

The God I believe in believes
love has no boundaries. Love is love and it doesn't matter who's doing the loving, as long they love, which reminds of my favorite Rod McKuen quote:

"It doesn't matter who you love, or how you love, but that you love."

I'm glad you blew the word limit for this one and I hope others read it...

  6. I love how you turned this around to expose hypocrisy. These guys need t confess publicly at least once before returning to the privacy of their confessional and prison and--hopefully--lost power.

  7. yep. I left the church for a slightly different reason - I was always falling asleep after the 1st reading. even when I was an alter boy (and was asked to not return, after the priest had to elbow me to wake up.) thankfully, no pedo's when I was there. ~

  12. I thought Holy communion was open to anyone who knows and loves God, that's it, end of, as my daughters would say.
