Shay's Rebellion

Plenty people
Tried to bang me down in a box
At the bottom of the sea
With a thousand million locks...

Mama was their Queen.
She tell me do right,
And toe the line,
Or she smash me to smithereens.

Sorry, Mama,
I'm a flock that scatters and spins;
Turns once, turns twice,
Then comes together again.

I always been this way.
Don't cotton much
To rules and such.
That's all I got to say.

Thanks to Cloudia, of Comfort Spiral blog, who sent the kitty pic, and wished me a happy anniversary of Shays Rebellion!

  2. Oh SHAY!

This poem is spare, and wiry,
    just the way
    this bear of little
    attention
    can follow
    and enjoy
    much!

    Did I inspire today's
    gem?
    Wow!

    And my special companion-
    K I T T Y!

You made both of us very happy today. (like other days)

    Need I mention,
    I relate to the subject
    matter?

Or did you dedicate this one
    to
    you
    &
    me
    ?

  6. We're all so glad you could not be contained in that box. What a loss that would be...

  7. There's a box? Shay-sized? With a lock and key? I don't believe it. Surely chopped up and used for firewood years ago.

  8. I really enjoy when you take on different dialects and patterns of speech .. I'm deep in GA right now, fits right in.

  9. A pretty effective mix of the coal voice with the FB imagery, esp in that third stanza. The world is full of people who can't be happy unless they've put everything that disturbs them in a box and locked it away. But as you note, you have to catch it first, and its hard to keep it there even then.Boxes were made to be escaped from by us Houdini types, even with chains included. (and while I admire the fittingness of the last line, I do doubt that's all you have to say. ;_) )

  10. What else would/could there be to say?

  11. Aint no box big enough, aint no lock strong enough, to fence you in, kiddo. And we are so happy about that.

  12. My sister was just saying she hates coming back home and is expected fit the box, rag-tag decades old, they have saved for her. Well she didn't say it like that, but that's what she meant. ;)

  13. Too often, Mama and Papa are the queen and king of pressing down the thumb.

  15. Agreed with Hedge -- Coal voice, FB imagery -- like that school that split into those two voices comes back together here, this once, to offer an anniversary middle digit to the keepers of the soul cages at the bottom of the sea .... Being my virtual element, I know everyone eats to survive, and the father in my dream last night who so scolded me for taking too lightly his death (he hasn't yet, but the dream was forboding) had the heft and feel of my submarinal cage's bars ... What a perfect solution, to scatter like a school of fish that looks like one fish into a million flashes and then get it back together when the threat has wolfed on some other poor denizen o' the heart. So when I scream "Get behind me Satan!" I really mean sending my hindparts swimming behind his dream-dark nastiness. Flawless kitty kitty kitty. - Brendan

oh yeah! we KNOW how Mama be!

the world {hell ~ the universe!} is a better place with the un-boxed Shay in it!
