ReplyDeleteIris would fit right in among the dope girls of Soho.
ReplyDeleteGreat wordplay, Shay, and I would love to hear Iris Indigo some time. She kind of reminds me of Janis Joplin, with ‘the voice given her by some broken, incandescent god’.
ReplyDeletelife of an indie singer in 44 - some great words there and loved the revival of 'tommyrotters''
ReplyDeleteNot that I don't enjoy Iris Indigo's talent ... but can she sing it like Ella can?
ReplyDeleteme, I get a flavor of saudade. ~

Shay, the name "Iris Indigo" resonates powerfully, and the shift from divine to "indiglorious" is a brilliant touch.

i'm not familiar with a singer called Iris Indigo (real?). but, verses 2 & 3 made me think of Queen's Killer Queen lyrics. which = guaranteed to blow your mind!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this! That first introductory stanza is simply untouchable, amen.
ReplyDeleteSuch a vivid portrait in so few words. I can see her dancing like a sparkler burning down, dazzling to the last second.
