When I Think Of You, It Brings These Lines

by request

When I think of you, it brings the night
Because
Blackbirds gather under my skin,
Millions of them,
Each feather a craving, unstill and restless until
Your touch calls them and they
Black the sky
With their dark joy.

When I think of you, it brings the fire
Because
Small suns gather under my skin,
Millions of them,
Each the lit center of a swirling want, until
Your kiss frees them and they
Bright the sky
With their full desire.

When I think of you,
It is shadow and light--
It is everything--
It is all that one who loves you can (gladly) endure.

  7. I just love the juxtaposition of shadow and light in the metaphoric language: that first stanza is perfection.

  9. "...each the lit center of a swirling want" is a beautiful phrase.

Also, the use of parenthesis in the last line--that was a brilliant choice.

  14. No one writes love poems like you, Shay. May you always find the shadow and the light under your skin, and show it to us so perfectly.

  15. I can feel both crows and suns under the skin........Like Joy says, no one writes love poems like you do.

  16. Well structured creating a unifying but contrasting imagery. I particularly like the simplified conclusion. Beautifully paired with the image.

  19. Long time since I've commented here, Shay. NOW I know why! Ran out of words to express how GOOD I think you are. I'll stop 'trying so hard', and just say you are Mistress of Love in thought, word, and deed--my opinion.

And that image! WOW! HOT! (And the fire also--grin!)

    PEACE!
