When I think of you, it brings the night
Because
Blackbirds gather under my skin,
Millions of them,
Each feather a craving, unstill and restless until
Your touch calls them and they
Black the sky
With their dark joy.
When I think of you, it brings the fire
Because
Small suns gather under my skin,
Millions of them,
Each the lit center of a swirling want, until
Your kiss frees them and they
Bright the sky
With their full desire.
When I think of you,
It is shadow and light--
It is everything--
It is all that one who loves you can (gladly) endure.

ReplyDeleteGreat piece! Here's hoping that she didn't get too close to that fire...
ReplyDelete"dark joy" - just love it! Loved the whole poem, but that phrase slayed me.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and sensual. I love photo too. It works perfectly with your words.
ReplyDeleteI just love the juxtaposition of shadow and light in the metaphoric language: that first stanza is perfection.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI loved "black the sky with their dark joy" and "Each feather a craving"
Wonderful writing. x
Yes - dark joy. Very cool.
ReplyDelete"...each the lit center of a swirling want" is a beautiful phrase.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the use of parenthesis in the last line--that was a brilliant choice.
When I think of you I feel the awe I get when I read your words
ReplyDeleteAwesome, sensual write, Shay. xo
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful you just want to hold it and turn it in the light. Truly spectacular, Shay.
ReplyDeletesomething like ecstasy, so far as i can tell.
ReplyDeleteNo one writes love poems like you, Shay. May you always find the shadow and the light under your skin, and show it to us so perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI can feel both crows and suns under the skin........Like Joy says, no one writes love poems like you do.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the photo too!
ReplyDeleteWell structured creating a unifying but contrasting imagery. I particularly like the simplified conclusion. Beautifully paired with the image.

ReplyDeleteLong time since I've commented here, Shay. NOW I know why! Ran out of words to express how GOOD I think you are. I'll stop 'trying so hard', and just say you are Mistress of Love in thought, word, and deed--my opinion.
ReplyDeleteAnd that image! WOW! HOT! (And the fire also--grin!)
PEACE!

ReplyDeleteAwesome ... leaving me at a loss for words. And a tad envious of the person on the receiving end of those thoughts.
ReplyDeletehot! second stanza is my favorite.
