Full Moon

I want my hands to be
two crescents--
one each, warm upon
your face,
and, also
your hip.

I want to lay with you,
as close as fur to the fox--
I want to say,
I love you sweetheart,
and, also
that there is only one sky
and one earth curved close against it.

  1. I want my hands to be two crescent rolls. Two buttery, savory crescent rolls perched upon my wrists. MMmmmm...

  2. And make them lightly brown, fresh out of the oven with...Oh, sorry. Herman Turnip got me off track.

I like the idea of the title also hinting at a nice rear end, but perhaps my mind is in the gutter this evening.

  3. yep sioux hit where my mind was heading with hands, but not that they are crescent rolls there is no way i am sharing my hands...

  4. So beautiful - no one writes love poems like you do!

  5. I'm visualizing the hands lightly cupped, fitting themselves to the curved shapes they are bracketing, all sort of one thing. The last lines are tender as a sigh, and the fox and its fur--can't be topped for an image of closeness. I echo Sherry, your love poems are in league of their own.

  7. Thank you Sherry, Hedge, and Dani. I worked especially hard on this. The first draft was about thirty lines long, but as you can see, I felt the shorter poem was better. Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments on my love poem.

    I especially loved -

"I want to lay with you,
as close as fur to the fox"

    and -

"that there is only one sky
and one earth curved close against it."

    Wonderful writing Shay!

  10. Imagine me reading thinking oh crescents .. warm crescents like those little frozen ready to bake and then I see Lolamouse had the same reaction .. its got to be the carbs, they, like love, make you want more

  11. I swear to god, people. Crescent MOONS, not fucking dinner rolls. And because the moon is cold, and I'm really talking about hands, I added the "warm." But whatever. It's a love poem I wrote for my girl, but if you all want it to be about the Pillsbury fucking Doughboy, go for it.

as close as fur to the fox--"
Love this, so simple and wild...

    "there is only one sky
and one earth curved close against it."
This makes me think a million things, all of them revolutionary for humankind...
