By The Numbers

She only told 1 little lie. A baby one, really. 15 years of marriage and a dozen regrets later, they were just 2 people at 6's and 7's with each other. They'd been married on the 4th of July. The fireworks lasted 8 months, then faded. The little lie? "I still love you," she said.

  1. Maybe it wasnt a lie. Loving someone isnt quite the same as being in love ...

  2. 1, 15, 12, 2, 6, 7, 4, 8...

Okay, that's too many numbers for the Lotto -- even with the Power Ball. And "AOLBFGDH" wouldn't mean anything (though it'd make an interesting Captcha code I guess).

Sixes and Sevens... Eights and Aces... W and TF...

Guess there's no coded messages here, huh? Just a helluva 55. (Hmm... there's no fives here!)

    I'm overthinking this aren't I?

  5. You? Are brilliant! I didn't even really factor (pun intended) the title into it, I just knew there were too many numbers in too small a space to be a coincidence.

    Awesome. Just awesome.

  6. That's too much figuring for my old brain to comprehend at this time of the morning but the 55 was great. Sadly, too many marriages are at that stage, continuing along in mediocrity. I guess that's why I've been happily divorced for 20 years!

  7. I'm no mathmetician, but I count 55 a couple times over! Damn, you're good, Shay.

Too bad there is no English word for that hollow space with peeling paint that echoes only memories when love has left the room.

  8. No matter which way you add it up, that was an awesome 55, Shay!

  9. Okay, I'm really glad I wasn't the first person here because I would not realized the numbers added up.

You are very clever and this is an interesting idea. I'm not sure I could do this, especially in just one paragraph. I'm impressed:~)
