I don't like to wait.
Hurry up with that,
Hand it over;
If I get bored,
I might torch this dump
Because
I don't like to wait.
They say the earth is shifting on its axis.
I think I'll get down on all fours,
And shimmy baby.
I could just go about my life
And bide my time til the planet cracks,
But I already told you,
I don't like to wait.
It's been ten minutes
Since I last scratched an itch.
If it ever goes eleven,
I'll turn into such a...
Itch
Itch
Itch
Itch
One day I will rot quietly
In my scooter chair
In the hallway.
One day my heart will give it up.
One day I'll find that big love,
But it will only be God;
Then I'll be safe,
Then I'll be straight,
But til then I'm gonna bang the gong
And keep burning on
Because, it's like I told you,
I can't stand the wait.
Rotting in a scooter chair in the hallway...what an image!
ReplyDeleteWaiting is the hardest part.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday to you.
keep banging...that gong shay...today is the only day you are guaranteed...itch...itch...itch...
ReplyDeleteYes! Banging the gong and burning! Gotta live before you rot in a scooter. Some fantastic, dynamic inspiration this morning! Thanks!
ReplyDeletebang the gong!
ReplyDeleteThe perfect poem of impatience, Shay! :)
ReplyDeleteNot the scooter chair!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this one so much!!!! I am a lot closer to the scooter chair than you are, kiddo, and have been waiting for several million centuries, so I so know the feeling!!! hee hee.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, I have a lot of weight ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the Army,as a young man, my Drill Instructor said to me, "I know, Mac, when I die, you're gonna piss on my grave"
I told him, "No sir, when I get out of the Army, I'm never waiting in line again"
Ms. Patience is what they call me! I can wait forever .....
ReplyDeleteYou just keep on banging girl, keep on banging! I loathe waiting. I don't have the patience for it. Someone once told me that the reward of patience is...more patience. I think that's a rip. I should get a Lexus or something.
ReplyDeleteGreat poem!!
Better to burn out than it is to rust, as Neil says. We all may be waiting to rot in our scooter chairs, but I agree, it's way better to do as much as possible to distract yourself while you still can than to just freakin sit there.
ReplyDeleteSo many images, all big and bold and brassy. I like that. And the waiting? I don't do it. When it looks to others as if I am, it it only because they cannot see what I'm really doing. I'm tricky like that. Bang that gong!

ReplyDeleteYoo-hoo! You have an award at my blog!
ReplyDeleteMe either .. so imagine how itchy I am to get the iPad I ordered online too late to get it in the first 5-7 business days I could have ... if I hadnt been SO smart .. not
ReplyDeleteFun, thought-provoking.
ReplyDeleteSweet. Just found you here. I've been stuck in the doorway with two ways to go - down the long hallway or back in my tiny room.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me I can always burst through the roof by adding a souped-up, rocket-powered scooter of my own.
Peace.
i like the way you work it
ReplyDeleteyou got to bag it up :)
