It is necessary to have long hair in Fall.
I speak only for myself, of course...
You may present your head to the shears or join the circus--
That is none of my concern.
In the Autumn, long hair pleases me.
It is like cat's whiskers, or an old Arizona telegraph line--
It sends itself out on the air as I close my eyes, hugging myself through my sweater,
And it tells me what the breeze has been dreaming.

I love autumn. And Halloween!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. I keep hearing Peter wolf in the background. You know, that one song...
ReplyDelete"Take your big curls and squeeze them down Ratumba
What's the name of the chick with the long hair?
(Rapunzel) Hey Rapunzel
Heh heh... Hey Reputa the beautah! Reputa the Beautah
Hey Reputa the Beautah flip me down your hair
And let me climb up to the ladder of your love
Because this is the wooba gooba sayin' to ya
"Love comes once and when it comes
You better grab it fast cuz sometimes the love
You grab aint gonn' last and
I believe I musta
You know I think I musta
You know baby I think I musta
You know I think I musta
I musta got lost"
:-P
Hmmm...."join the circus" - I've always wondered what that would be like :)
ReplyDeleteI love that last line, Shay! If breezes could talk...
This is a lovely post. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love long hair, particularly on me.
All the best, Boonie
I do know someone from college that
ReplyDeletedid run off to join the circus...
but it had nothing to do with
long hair or shears...
Long hair in summer can be so hot on the neck.
ReplyDeleteI'd run off with the circus only for the constant supply of candy apples. um, um. love those treats!
xo
Such a cool way to look at Autumn...for years i always kept my hair long, and then one day I got sick of it...and chopped it all off...it has been kind of short ever since...just long enough now to get into a ponytail.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, the circus sometimes seems like my life....never a dull moment. :-)
I ran away when I was 3 or 4 .. I packed this little hat box valise and walked to the end of the loooong hallway to our front door and then apparently (as the story goes) I sat there til my dad came home from work ..
ReplyDeleteAnd long hair .. I love long hair all year 'round .. but the older I get the less it loves me ..
I like to think that the breeze is dreaming. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy hair is shoulder length - I miss really long hair, but this length works for me now.
This made me sigh. Something so lovely about this.
ReplyDeleteI am with MZ on this one, it made me melt into a sigh, that fall is finally upon us and the last line "And it tells me what the breeze has been dreaming." WOW! That one had me...thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteLove you
g
I LOVE this. This shows a gifted poet can write about ANYTHING. I especially admire "like cat's whiskers or an old Arizona telegraph line". Wow!"And it tells me what the breeze has been dreaming". SO well done!
ReplyDeleteSpy hair...I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteMiss u and Bosco, Chica! He hasn't called me back yet. :(
Cruel poetess to make me miss Fall so intently!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, long hair in autumn! This was great.
ReplyDeleteWhen mine gets long it drives me a little nuts. Which had you known me at 17 would hand you a real laugh.
ReplyDeleteBut if mine talked to me the way yours does, I might have to grow it out too.
ah, you make me wish i had long hair again to catch a few of those dreams...
ReplyDeleteah, you make me wish i had long hair again to catch a few of those dreams...
ReplyDeleteit tells me what the breeze has been dreaming... so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have very long hair. :-)
I've always wondered how long hair feels - I've never had the patience to find out, and now I think I've missed the boat! lol :)
