Small Talk

Don gloves before handling porcupines;
Dark glasses when in love with the sun--

Protect virtue with dozens of petticoats;
Slouch in doorways and call, to meet men.

Never trust captains of ferry boats;
Feign boredom when purchasing wine--

During lovemaking, do not consult your notes,
And keep your damn mitts off what's mine.

  3. Lively and scathing, but then, that's totally normal here. I like your portrait of what can live inside the social concept of a pair of gloves. Never trust captains of ferry boats, and never play cards with a man named Doc (<-Kerouac)

  5. Hil-AR-ious! How do you DO this??!! "glove before handling porcupines"....I looked at gloves and saw gloves and came to a full stop....I think upon death you would do humankind a service by donating your brain to science!

    I love this one especially much. I will use the porcupine advice as a Note To Self:)

  6. Very Decemberist of you! In the best way possible.

    Really? Does one have to wear gloves to handle porcupines? How awesome.

  13. Reminds me of this chorus to an old song!

    All together now, one, two, three
    Keep your mind on your driving
    Keep your hands on the wheel
    Keep your snoopy eyes on the road ahead
    We're having fun, sitting in the backseat
    Kissing and a hugging with Fred
