If I were drowning,
Would you save me?
I know the water is full of women--
Mermaids, sirens, loreleis and the rest;
I also know that
Falling is to sinking
As spirit is to flesh--
We all need love
As the body needs breath,
So, if I were drowning,
Would you save me?
Or would you say, imperturbably,
"How calm is the surface...
How peaceful the sea"?

ReplyDeleteIf I met her, I'd want to drown her. How's that?
ReplyDeleteI know what I would do...
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that someone would even feel like there might be a different answer.
Another beautiful poem, Shay.
I would! I would! And probably it may make someone very happy...that you were saved! Maybe even YOU?
ReplyDeleteOhhh, what I have been missing.....
This is stronger than having the person attached to a polygraph. Very powerful, very direct, forceful. Gentle words with a giagantic impact. Grown in the Word Garden.
ReplyDeleteSecretia

ReplyDeletelove the new photos! and the answer...the answer... perhaps to jump in and join her! :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'd think there would be only one answer to that but it's a good question to ask if you are uncertain. The answer would speak volumes.
ReplyDeleteI'm off on vacation Wednesday. I'll catch up again with you next week. Have a good one!

ReplyDeleteDifficult questions = difficult answers... After all the ...*** whatever we've experienced I can positively state:
ReplyDeleteOnly WE ourselves can save ourselves...
Should the job require two, I'll help Riot Kitty.
ReplyDeleteLove would necessatate saving you.
ReplyDeleteAnything less is not love.
very nice!
ReplyDeleteI'd probably put on my water wings and paddle uselessly about, trying not to get my hair wet... and you would probably drown. I know. It's terrible. I'm sorry. :(
ReplyDeleteof course......
ReplyDeleteSadly I doubt that I would be saved but another lesson learned and maybe from your other poem...another ring formed of growth...the learning oh the pain of it...
