Vespers For A Rainy Night

Raindrops thick as fever fill my window pane--
Between each, the barest space;
Outside, the dampened night streets shine
Like your skin, My Love, and face.

I close my eyes like folded wings--
I search for you and say these things:

Touch me
deeper
Warm me
deeper
Know me
deeper
Take me
deeper

These are my devotions, true and spare--
Like water on glass, I offer my
Profane and perfect prayer.

I know that in the light of day,
Cherished does not mean blessed--
But tonight you are my holiest joy--
Devil take the rest.

I close my eyes like folded wings--
I fill with you and say these things:

Touch me
deeper
Warm me
deeper
Know me
deeper
Take me
deeper

These are my devotions, true and spare--
Like water on glass, I offer my
Profane and perfect prayer.

  7. I'm glad it's pouring rain as I read this - clattering on the sill nearby from an usual (for this area) east wind because it's keeping my mind in the cool zone.

    This was sizzling, Shay.

  8. You, Tiger-friend, must attend the Church of the Holy Hotness. They don't use that prayer at the Episcopalian church.

seriously, the sense of your love is beautiful as well as erotic, fragile, perfect, the Dream made flesh indeed. You're just as good when you're serious as when you make me laugh.

  10. Wowzers, a "profane and perfect prayer" indeed. This is so full and deep - and prayerful. Someone is very fortunate to be loved by you for sure. I especially love "I close my eyes like folded wings."

Another wonderful poem, Shay. Great writing, as always.I cant get over how prolific you are.And each poem absolutely top notch, not a "less than" one in the lot.

I dont need a shower. I am old and tired. I just nod and smile benignly, and scatter "Blessings, children! Enjoy!" at you young 'uns. Hee hee.

    A wonderful prayer of love.

  13. A poem-a prayer-a chant that belongs right up there with the world's most beloved love poetry.

Tell me, what does it feel like after you have completed a poem like this? I simply cannot imagine the sheer pleasure you must have. At least I hope so, because you sure pleasure your readers.....

  25. Dear Emily
Your first line 'Raindrops thick as fever..' caught my eyes and hooked me into this verse... and slowly you drove me into a sensuous feel which lingered long after I finished reading it... I enjoyed it so much..
